2016 Spring Photography Workshop Information
We are excited to announce that the 2016 Spring Cass Scenic Railroad State Park Photography Workshop will take place May 13th through 15th, taking advantage of the early spring foliage in the Mountains of West Virginia.
This action packed weekend will feature geared steam locomotives, a steam powered log train, classroom teaching sessions, night photo session, astrophotography (weather permitting), locomotive shop, town and lumber mill ruin photography and other great opportunities only offered to those who attend this special weekend.
Our Saturday will begin at the Cass shop as the locomotives are prepared for the days runs up the mountain. We will then have the opportunity to photograph the trains as they make multiple photo runbys around the depot and mill area. This will be an entirely different setup than previous Cass Workshops.
Later that afternoon we will lead workshop participants around the town of Cass and into select buildings. This will offer a great opportunity to photograph the unique, early 20th century architecture of the former lumber town. The day will conclude with a night photo session with one of the steam locomotives at a location not yet determined.
On Sunday morning we will board our special photo train at the Cass depot. Our steam powered train will feature log cars and a caboose. We will be traveling to Whittaker Station with photo stops at many popular locations along with way including over streams, road crossings, switchbacks, tight curves and s-curves. Our small group will allow us to disembark our train and fit into spots that are not possible with larger groups and help us maximize our time on the mountain. Actors, props and other surprises will be provided to help enhance select stops along the way.
*Disclaimer: Scheduling and equipment subject to change due to availability. Trains will run rain or shine!
This workshop is priced at $250 and is limited to just 30 participants. Price include’s Saturday breakfast aboard the train.
